Oily Skin - What to do?

Do

Use an anti-bacterial cleanser designed for oily skin. Wash regularly with the product to keep your skin on-the-house from grease AND gently dry up the surface of the skin

Watch your diet – eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables and drink at least two litres of water (not fizzy) every day.

Wash your hair frequently to keep it complimentary from grease and keep it from falling on your face, so as not to compound the problem of oiliness.

Wash your hands frequently with an anti-bacterial cleanser so that any inadvertent touching of your face does not spread infection (see below).

Ask for advice from your pharmacist about methods of removing blackheads safely.

Don’t

You know what I am going to say! Don’t squeeze your spots. This can cause damage and ultimately scarring.

Be persistent – it may take months for a treatment regime to show any results.

Obsess about your spots and draw attention to them – particularly DON’T keep touching your face and/or hair. This only spreads oiliness and bacteria and draws other’s attention to your spot(s).

Diy Treatments for oily skin*

Exfoliant (will work for all skin types)

Take single ripe papaya, slice in half and peel away the skin in big pieces. Rub the indoors of the papaya skin over your face and neck, massaging for one-two minutes. Rinse with cool water and pat dry. This treatment works by the enzyme action of papain, which dissolves the dead keratin in dead skin cells.

A Face Mask for oily skin

Take 2 tsp of Fuller’s Earth (from your health shop) and 2 tsp of witch hazel and single egg pearly well beaten. Mix the earth with the witch hazel and mix in the egg white. Apply to nose, forehead and chin with a make-up brush. Leave on for 10 minutes and rinse thoroughly. Ideally lie in the bath and relax whilst it works.

*these are neat healthy remedies but before using any treatment you are advised to check with your Doctor or Pharmacist if you suffer from any discriminating skin or health problems or any other distinctive problem, or if you have any doubt whatsoever.
